On 11 February 2026, more than 30 community members gathered at the Mount Barker Community Centre to mark this important new chapter in our local suicide prevention efforts.

We were deeply honoured to welcome Mental Health Commissioner for South Australia, Taimi Allan, who shared powerful insights and personal reflections. Her message reminded us that real change happens when lived experience, strong leadership, and compassionate communities come together with a shared purpose.

We also heard from Dee Salunkhe and Hao Wang from Anglicare SA, who spoke about their Suicide Prevention service and the dedication that drives their work each day. Vivienne Maher reflected on her involvement across several Suicide Prevention Networks and her supportive role with Anglicare SA’s StandBy Support After Suicide service. Group member Stefan Kmit introduced the LivingWorks safeTALK workshop — a practical and empowering program that equips people to recognise the signs of suicide and be the connection that keeps someone safe — and shared his vision for the future of our group.

Most importantly, the evening was a reminder of the strength and care within our own community. Thank you to everyone who attended, listened, shared, and considered being part of this journey. If you’d like to get involved or learn more, we warmly welcome you — every perspective matters, and together we can make a difference.
